Cabinets Near Atlanta, GA

Finding a cabinet installer near Atlanta means finding one who understands the suburb you live in, not just the zip code. The ten cities served by Atlanta Cabinet Works sit in Fulton, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties, and the housing they contain spans a century of construction: 1920s Craftsman bungalows, 1950s brick ranches, 1990s master-planned subdivisions, and 2020s teardown rebuilds. Each era and each city type presents a different set of conditions for a cabinet installation.

Ten cities, ten different kinds of kitchen

The location pages on this site describe what each city's housing stock and county permit environment mean for a cabinet project. None of them substitutes the city name into a template: Brookhaven's teardown corridor and Milton's large-lot zoning and Decatur's 1920s bungalow neighborhoods genuinely differ, and so the pages differ. The information on each page is specific to what a buyer in that city needs to understand before the measure visit is scheduled.

The Service Area: Ten Cities in Three Counties

The Atlanta Cabinet Works service area runs north and east from the city center. The northern corridor includes Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, Sandy Springs, and Johns Creek, in Fulton County. The eastern corridor includes Dunwoody, Brookhaven, and Decatur, in DeKalb County. Peachtree Corners and Berkeley Lake, both in Gwinnett County, round out the ten cities.

Most of these cities sit within roughly forty minutes of a central Atlanta location by road. Milton and Johns Creek are at the outer edge of that range. Both communities produce the kind of kitchen and custom built-in projects that make the distance worthwhile.

County address determines which building department handles a permit application for a cabinet project. A kitchen installation in Alpharetta falls under Fulton County. The same project in Brookhaven falls under DeKalb County. The location page for each city names the relevant county and notes the permit process for that jurisdiction.

Housing Eras Across the Ten Cities

Housing era is the strongest predictor of what a cabinet installer will encounter in a particular city.

Decatur's residential stock from the 1910s and 1920s consists largely of Craftsman bungalows and Colonial Revival homes with kitchens sized to the conventions of that era: galley layouts, lower ceiling heights, and wall construction that predates modern stud spacing. A kitchen renovation in one of Decatur's older neighborhoods involves more wall preparation and shimming than a home built fifty years later in a comparable square footage.

Sandy Springs and Dunwoody built out primarily in the 1950s through the 1980s, producing single-story brick ranches and split-level colonials with kitchens designed around the appliance configurations of that period. Many of those kitchens are candidates for a full replacement that also changes the layout.

The master-planned communities of Alpharetta and the swim-tennis subdivisions of Johns Creek, mostly built in the 1980s through the early 2000s, have larger floor plans with kitchens that accommodate a complete semi-custom installation: uppers, lowers, an island, and a pantry stack without a layout change.

Brookhaven's Ashford Park teardown corridor has seen sustained new construction over the past decade. Those new builds often include a full custom cabinet specification across the kitchen, all bathrooms, the closets, and the laundry room, coordinated with the general contractor through the build.

Historic Districts and Interior Cabinet Work

Roswell and Decatur each operate local historic overlay districts that require a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior modifications to contributing structures. Roswell's historic district covers a substantial portion of the city center. Decatur operates five local historic overlay zones across different neighborhoods.

These review requirements apply to the exterior of the property: the facade, windows, roofline, siding, and other features visible from the street. Interior work, including kitchen and bathroom cabinet replacement, goes through the standard county residential permit process and does not require historic review board approval in either city.

Sandy Springs has a Chattahoochee River Corridor overlay that adds environmental review for site work near the river. Interior renovation, including cabinet installation, is outside that overlay's scope.

Fulton, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties each permit interior cabinet replacement and installation through the standard residential construction permit process, regardless of what historic or environmental overlays apply to the exterior of the property. A buyer in a historic district who is replacing kitchen cabinets is not subject to a different permit process than a buyer in a non-historic neighborhood.

What Cabinet Projects Cost in the Service Area

Material costs and installation rates do not vary significantly by suburb within the service area. A semi-custom kitchen line is priced the same in Alpharetta as in Decatur. What varies is the site condition the installer encounters when the cabinets arrive.

Older homes in Decatur, Brookhaven, and Roswell's historic neighborhoods are more likely to present out-of-plumb walls, unlevel floors, or non-standard ceiling heights than homes built after 1990. That preparation work is a real line item in the project cost, and it appears in the written quote after the field measure, not as a surprise at installation.

For reference, semi-custom kitchen installation runs roughly $150 to $700 per linear foot installed, as an estimate. Custom work for a kitchen runs roughly $500 to $1,200 per linear foot, as an estimate. Refacing a typical kitchen runs roughly $4,500 to $10,500, as an estimate.

Figures shown here are estimates and subject to change. The written quote establishes the final price.

Why Each Location Page Differs

Each city on the service map has its own location page built from research specific to that city: the housing stock by era, the county permit process, the neighborhood types, and the conditions a cabinet installer typically encounters there.

The Milton page covers the AG-1 zoning that governs most of that city's residential land and what it means for a cabinet project in a home on a large rural lot. The Decatur page covers the Craftsman bungalow stock and the certificate requirements that apply to exterior work but not to interior cabinet installation. The Peachtree Corners page covers the Gwinnett County permit process and the planned unit developments that characterize much of that city.

The goal of each page is to give a cabinet buyer in that specific city the information relevant to their project, not a generic page that applies equally to every Atlanta suburb. Housing from 1920s bungalows through 2020s custom builds is why the location pages differ.

Questions

Coverage questions

Which cities does Atlanta Cabinet Works serve?

The ten cities are Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Johns Creek, Dunwoody, Brookhaven, Decatur, Peachtree Corners, and Berkeley Lake. Each has its own location page with city-specific information. If your city is not listed, call to ask about availability for your specific address.

Does Atlanta Cabinet Works install cabinets inside the Atlanta city limits?

The primary service area is the surrounding suburbs, but projects within the Atlanta city limits are considered on a case-by-case basis. Call to confirm availability for your specific neighborhood.

Do historic district rules affect a kitchen or bathroom cabinet replacement?

In Roswell and Decatur, the Certificate of Appropriateness process applies to exterior modifications on contributing structures. Kitchen and bathroom cabinet replacement is interior work and goes through the standard county residential permit process. Historic review board approval is not required for interior cabinet projects in either city.

Does an HOA need to approve an interior cabinet installation?

HOA covenants in most Atlanta-area communities govern exterior modifications, landscaping, and structural changes. An interior cabinet replacement that does not alter the home's exterior appearance or structural elements is typically outside the scope of HOA review. Check your specific covenant if the development has an active architectural review committee.

Why is there a separate page for each city in the service area?

A 1920s Craftsman bungalow in Decatur presents different installation conditions than a 1990s subdivision home in Alpharetta or a new construction in Brookhaven. Housing era, neighborhood type, and county regulations differ enough from city to city that a page written specifically for each location gives more useful information than a page with only the city name changed.

Does the distance from downtown Atlanta affect the project cost?

Material and installation rates do not change by distance within the service area. Site preparation costs, which vary by the age and condition of the home rather than by city, are the larger variable. Older homes anywhere in the service area are more likely to need preparation work than newer construction.
